How to Train Your Yorkie Not to Bark

A Yorkie is a wonderful companion and a perfect example of man's best friend since they provide entertainment, love, and devotion to their owner. The only problem is that some Yorkies turn out to be quite full of energy, and their constant barking can be stressful to their owners and neighbors. There are many effective ways to train your Yorkie not to bark, but it takes time and dedication to break your companion of this horrible habit.

A Yorkie will bark for a number of different reasons, ranging from needing to go outside to a loud noise that scares them. You can cut down on how much your Yorkie barks by making sure he is taken out on regular walks, so he has plenty of time to do his business and get rid of excess energy. Keeping your home full of toys will also help tolimit his barking since many Yorkies will bark when they are feeling bored. The toys will help to keep him occupied most of the time, and it wont hurt to give him some extra attention if he starts to bark.

Yorkies also tend to bark when they hear an unfamiliar noise or something startles them, or even if they hear someone walking outside their home. This is a habit that needs to be broken, or else you will have to listen to your Yorkie barking non-stop. There are many ways to train your Yorkie to stop barking, and they must be done consistently in order to get improvement.

One way to train your Yorkie to stop barking is by teaching him to speak. By teaching him the command to speak, you are also teaching the lesson that barking is only allowed when asked by his owner. Once hehas gotten the "speak command down clean, you can start to teach the quiet command to let him know it is time to stop. It is important to reward your Yorkie each time he follows the command, since it will make him more willing to do it when he is given a treat or extra love for listening.

Using a toy or something to grab your Yorkies attention is another way to get him to stop barking, such as a squeak toy or even a can full of pennies. You will want to grab your attention away from the Yorkies stimulant he is barking about, and let him know there is no need to be barking. The item used for distracting should only need to be used once in order to grab the dog's attention, but it should not be loud or distracting enough to startle the dog barking fit into another. In order to let yourYorkie know he did a good job by forgetting the reason he was barking, you should praise him and give him love for no longer barking.

Even though the Yorkie breed is well known for very vocal pets, there are very effective ways to train your Yorkie not to bark. It is normal for any dog to park to show excitement, but it can turn into a problem if it becomes excessive. By taking your Yorkies attention away from whatever he is barking at, and teaching him when and when not to speak, you can easily train your Yorkie not to bark and live a quiet and peaceful life with your companion.
